ABONO

ABONO is El Depa’s resource redistribution initiative, created to move funds, tools, and other forms of support directly—and with fewer bureaucratic barriers—to projects and communities within our ecosystem.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

Applications are open year-round and reviewed monthly by El Departamento de la Comida’s collective. Support is awarded based on available funds and the priorities we identify collectively.

Historically, ABONO has primarily supported Puerto Rican and Caribbean-led projects based in Borikén, self-managed community initiatives, queer and trans community projects, women-led projects, and efforts supporting our elder communities.

FOR 2026, WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM PROJECTS IN:

  • Barrio San Salvador, Caguas.
  • The Río Grande de Loíza watershed. (See map below.)
  • The LGBTTQIA+ community, with priority given to projects within the Río Grande de Loíza watershed.

Food + Agricultural Infrastructure
Up to $500 for construction, equipment, and materials.

Up to $300 to participate in a workshop or facilitate one.

Access to tools and equipment from El Depa’s Agroteca for brigades, projects, and/or events.
