ABONO
Applications are open year-round and reviewed monthly by El Departamento de la Comida’s collective. Support is awarded based on available funds and the priorities we identify collectively.
Historically, ABONO has primarily supported Puerto Rican and Caribbean-led projects based in Borikén, self-managed community initiatives, queer and trans community projects, women-led projects, and efforts supporting our elder communities.
FOR 2026, WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM PROJECTS IN:
- Barrio San Salvador, Caguas.
- The Río Grande de Loíza watershed. (See map below.)
- The LGBTTQIA+ community, with priority given to projects within the Río Grande de Loíza watershed.
Thank you to our team, community, collaborators, and funders for making less bureaucratic forms of resource redistribution possible.
At El Depa, we understand that our growth is tied to the growth of our broader ecosystem. That is why we are committed to sharing resources, opportunities, and funds when they come into our hands.
ABONO is one way we put this practice into action: redistributing the resources we receive so they can help sustain the work of others.
If you have questions, would like to donate directly to ABONO, or are interested in supporting this initiative, email us at info@eldepartamentodelacomida.org.
